I love making rainbow scarves: watching the colors blend together like brushstrokes as it shrinks, shrinks, shrinks…

SUMMER’S ARMIES

Some rainbow coming from the fair!

Some vision of the world Cashmere

I confidently see!

Or else a peacock’s purple train,

Feather by feather, on the plain

Fritters itself away!

The dreamy butterflies bestir,

Lethargic pools resume the whir

Of last year’s sundered tune.

From some old fortress on the sun

Baronial bees march, one by one,

In murmuring platoon!

The robins stand as thick to-day

As flakes of snow stood yesterday,

On fence and roof and twig.

The orchis binds her feather on

For her old lover, Don the Sun,

Revisiting the bog!

Without commander, countless, still,

The regiment of wood and hill

In bright detachment stand.

Behold! Whose multitudes are these?

The children of whose turbaned seas,

Or what Circassian land?

I started a new Etsy Shop to share my growing collection of fashion felt experiments and one great thing about Etsy is, if you ever need a boost, you can see who loves your work in the “who hearts this seller feature.”  That’s how I found the work of Akinamina, who makes really eclectic scarves and brooches in felt.  I am especially impressed by these felt necklaces.  They remind me of a constellation of stars or like something that walked out of a Joan Miro painting or Alexander Calder sculpture.  Something beyond that though….a funkiness and she collages together so many different elements.  Be sure to take a peak at her lovely bird brooches! How sweet-tweet, tweet!!

Here is more about Yusun Kang (aka Akinamina)
I majored in sculpture(in KOREA) and stage design(in JAPAN) and have been working on set design for a broadcasting station.
I have also lectured on space planning design and exhibition design in colleges for 9 years.
My area of work now, however, is quite different from what I have been studying.

Getting married and raising kids, I haven’t had enough time to work.
But Who can stop my desire for creative works?:)
As I liked to making something with hands, I started making kid’s clothing.
I made new ones, but I was more interested in reforming.
As I was interested in recycled material,
I started redesigning and remaking kid’s clothing using my old or out-fashioned clothing.
That led me to fellt work.

Felt is a work with endless possibilities, Nuno fellt is particularly so.
It is a work that motivates imagination and creative thinking by just mixing and harmonizing many kinds of material.

I have mostly worked on felt for the last five years and did a lot of work with the motto of ‘one for a day’ although I had more days I didn’t live up to the motto than I did.
I have shown most of my works through exhibitions.

These days, I make mostly nuno fellt corsage and scarfs.
Doing my work, I feel enthusiastic for the felt work that motivates astonishing creative abilities.
With many works here, I would like to meet many people that share the same interest.

New work going up on blogspot

Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Just getting some new work up on our online gallery:  harlequinfeltworks.blogspot.com

It always feels so satisfying to get things documented!

I had the great pleasure of seeing some of Laurie’s hats in person last year at the KPFA Arts & Craft Show in San Francisco.  Her distilled forms and lyrical embellishments are so engaging: seeing a whole booth of these creations was like walking into candy land!  Here is a LINK TO HER WEBSITE where you can see a full gallery of her hats and order one for yourself (and a friend!).

The Meticulous Felt of Stephanie Metz

Venus 2006

I don’t remember how I first came across Stephanie Metz’s work, but I know I haven’t been the same since.  Her incredible detailing and form just leaves my breathless and her wicked sense of humor is so much fun yet disturbing at the same time.  Here is the link to her full felt menagerie.

An excerpt from her Artist Statement:

For me the appeal of wool lies both in pushing its physical possibilities as a sculpting medium and in its suitability for the subject matter that interests me. Felted wool is organic, soft, and pliable, yet strong and hardy—perfect for realistic studies of humans and animals that exemplify those qualities. A firm grounding in realism and an understanding of the form and physiology of living things is the starting point in my sculpture.

And a few of my favorite things:

Overbreeding 2003

Chicken Legs 2003

(on a cutting board and methinks her toenails are painted! what a riot)

Michele Clement-Photo Phenom

Friday, June 20, 2008

I have been working with a super-pro photographer, Michele Clement, lately to put together a new bunch of felt photos.  I am so excited to do the upcoming shoot and have been making all sorts of new work for it.  I have even discovered 5 new scarves and shawls in the process!

Here is a link to Michele’s Website where she has a sampling of her vast array of work.  My favorites are the pinhole and conceptual images as well as the fashion/beauty ones.  Also-take a look at the Iceland images-she is publishing a book of them in the near future!  She is a powerhouse!!
